A truly auspicious day according to the Indian mythology. They say “Diwali is the festival of lights” this is the main reason people burn crackers in India.

What do you know about the firecrackers “industry” in India?

Yes,it is an industry. A industry which has a worth of around Rs 10 billion. Shivakasi is the industry which produces almost 80-90% of the firecrackers in India has around 500 manufacturing units around the country, which have workers ranging from 100-10,000 in each unit. There are certain firecrackers which come into India from china, which are 10 times more harmful than those made in India due the materials used to make them.

Why should you care about firecrackers?

Well, here are some of the many reasons why one should stop the use of firecrackers.

1. Air Pollution

The most easily visible effect of fireworks is Air Pollution. The gases produced when the firecrackers are burst and not ordinary gases, they are harmful gases(Nitrous Oxide, Sulfur Dioxide) which have diverse effects on the environment. The level of air pollution goes up by  30% during Diwali.

These gases don’t go away that easily if there are no rains or winds. What is more harmful than breathing in Nitrous Oxide & Sulfur Dioxide instead of oxygen? Inhaling of such gases leads to respiratory problems and diseases. This also effects the people who have respiratory problems like asthma, these gases make it hard for them to breadth and exposes them to suffocation, which again might lead to more complex problems.
